I just loved bow hunting…
As I got deeper into the sport, I discovered what was important to me as a sportsman. In addition to bow hunting I also developed a passion for archery in general. I enjoy seeing the hard work payoff. I enjoy watching a child hit the bullseye for the first time or the feeling you get after your first successful archery hunt.
As my passion for the sport grew so did my desire to make my equipment perform to its fullest potential. I started to set up my own equipment. Soon, my friends wanted me to work on their bows and arrows. It was self-gratifying watching their groups shrink in the backyard after an equipment or form alteration. It didn’t take long for my family to get the bug…and now my wife and kids all enjoy this incredible sport.
Along the way, I encountered God…
When I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior one of the things that I realize, is that some of us (including me) make things more complicated than they need to be. As I was reading the Bible one day I came to Mathew 22:37 NIV In this passage, one of the Pharisees asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was, and Jesus replied, “Love the Lord Your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind.” In essence Jesus repeated Deuteronomy 6:5. From this lesson I developed a simple Acronym to live by, “PGF” (Put God First). I believe Jesus just simply wants me to put him first. In my thoughts and actions…in everything I do. So now you know why we call it PGF Archery & Outdoors.
PGF Archery opens in our garage in February 2014
As word spread that we would work on archery equipment, my wife Adrianne and I discussed the possibility of opening a shop in the garage. It didn’t take long for us to decide we would name the business PGF Archery. We walked to our garage, held hands and prayed, asking Jesus to use the business to share the Gospel with others. We took a small amount of money out of a savings account and went through the process of opening a shop in our garage.
Soon we realized it was time for us to grow out of the garage. This was also partially because our sons walked through the garage (store) one day with very muddy boots. Each was holding a bullfrog in their hand and wanted to show us their “catch”. The shop had three customers at the time who thought this was cute but we realized there needed to be a separation between business and home because the business was a lot busier than we expected.
From the garage to a detached building at residence in January 2015
We rented a 14×24 shed that we finished off. The building was a little smaller in square footage but it was nice to be able to have something that was solely dedicated to the archery shop. The shed just became too cramped.

We finally moved to our Retail Location in Elizabeth City June 2016!
We announced through Social Media that we would be moving to a retail location and then quickly learned that an Archery Shop was going out of business in Elizabeth City. God blessed us with the opportunity to move into a retail location that was already set up for archery! We are now operating our business in Elizabeth City and have expanded to selling fishing supplies and ammunition. Call us or come by our store, we’d love to meet you and serve you.
